I'm a casual Facebook user, but I'm beginning to have doubts about it. I wonder about who really has access to my information, and I'm not liking all the commercialism I'm seeing more and more. It seems like every website I visit (Goldivas is an exception) has an invitation to "follow" them on Facebook. No, thanks!

Yes, I'm seeing more and more negatives in the news these days. And I can't think of too many positives. Some of my friends say it's good for keeping up with family, but what's wrong with email? What are they doing with Facebook that can't be done with email?
I prefer linkedin for professional networking, there is a lot less garbage there.

Facebook has announced some changes in their setup process lately, I haven't delved into the specifics yet.

I have to admit, I get exhausted just looking at my Facebook page. And now, when I go to my bank website, I see a sign, "Find Us On Facebook" - why? I'm seeing these signs all over, and I can't imagine why I would want to find a commercial enterprise on Facebook. Does anyone?

I saw this comment on a Facebook article this morning:
"I've come to the conclusion that everything gadget or PC we use anymore, instead of making our lives easier, will require a learning curve and will expose us to un-necessary risks until we figure out how to protect ourselves. Then we spend all our time using it instead of doing anything active or truly intellectual.
Facebook is probably the biggest risk many of us face in our lives and who is willing to spend all the time learning all the tricks? It's just useless knowledge, anyway. "
Good points! Be careful about the information you post anywhere, it doesn't go away even if you close your account.

I saw a news item yesterday, Facebook is giving IT developers access to user's home address & phone numbers! I'm seriously considering deleting my facebook account. Although they may have a way for users to disallow releasing that data, they'll just think of some other way to glean information. After, that is the commercial value of Facebook. They must get revenue from advertising, but in order to maximize earnings they'll probably keep on violating our privacy!

I'm keeping my Facebook account for now, but I won't use any of their apps. Too risky!

I just saw an article that says women over 40 have an average of FOUR times as many FaceBook friends as their children. That tells me women over 40 many not be aware of the privacy issues and other potential dangers.
