Organic vs. Natural – What’s the difference?
Organic vs. Natural – What’s the difference?

I realize that many of you are vegetarians, so this article will not be a concern for you. However, some of us are dedicated omnivores, and if that describes you, read on…

We often see products at the meat counter that are labeled “natural”, but what does that mean? In most cases, it means the processor has complied with the USDA definition:

“Minimally processed. No artificial ingredients. USDA permits no preservatives in this product.”

This says nothing about how the animal was raised, so the animals can be loaded with hormones, pesticides, and antibiotics, fed animal by-products prior to harvesting, and still fall into this “natural” category – yuck!

Organic meat comes from animals that have not been given hormones or antibiotics, and are not fed animal by-products, but instead are fed only organic feed. The organic feed requirement is what makes organically-produced meats very expensive.

Buy at Art.com Some producers of natural meats have voluntarily complied with higher standards than the USDA. Maverick Ranch - http://www.maverickranch.com/ - is one of them. Maverick Ranch meats come from animals that are fed 100% vegetarian diet, and are not fed hormones or antibiotics. Maverick Ranch also produces organic meats. The Maverick Ranch Natural line includes beef, pork, buffalo and free-range chicken, and these products are sold in over 2,000 retail locations throughout the USA.

Maverick Ranch also offers coupons and specials if you sign up for their preferred customer program – you’ll just need to complete a very short survey.

You will find many other brands labeled “natural” at your grocery store meat counter. Just remember, all “natural” products are not the same, so if you’re curious about another brand, be sure to check that company’s website. If you do your homework, you will find there is a wide range of food quality out there, and it doesn’t take much time to find the information to allow you to buy the healthiest food possible.

Good point! The claim to be natural needs deeper investigation. Thanks for the reminder. Although you could not pay me to eat my fellow creatures. I don't eat anything that has a face . I'm a Vegan. http://www.Vaboomer.com
